The mind conjures up images of alien forces at work as we discover a huge number 9 perfectly carved into the cold arctic seabed. With a pen of ice 60 m wide pressing 8 m into the seabed, this distinct figure around 1 km ‘high’ has been inscribed on the otherwise pocked and furrowed seabed with such precision it’s hard to believe this is the work of an iceberg.
