Palm Island Spine

Australia

A sand dune extends for 2.5 km between the southern tip of Fantome and Curacoa Island in the Palm Island Archipelago on the Great Barrier Reef. It rises sharply up to 10 m above the seafloor and has leading edges on both sides, indicating that it is formed by a complex pattern of convergent tidal currents flowing around the islands.
